[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Hanwha Systems and vehicle sensor company Truewin's joint venture, 'Hanwha Intelligence,' held its founding ceremony and officially launched its automotive electronics business.
On the 30th, Hanwha Systems announced that the founding ceremony of Hanwha Intelligence was held the previous day in Daejeon. Hanwha Intelligence completed the establishment of a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) semiconductor fab facility this month on the Truewin business site located in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, according to the joint investment agreement between the two companies made last September.
Hanwha Intelligence is a system semiconductor sensor company that specializes in developing and producing IR (infrared) sensors, the core components of night vision known as the "eyes of autonomous vehicles," and vehicle MEMS sensors. After a commissioning period including performance testing, Hanwha Intelligence plans to start production of QVGA (320x240 pixel resolution) thermal imaging sensors, components of thermal cameras, within the fourth quarter of next year, aiming for full-scale production of automotive electronic sensors in 2023.
Yoon Seok-eun, CEO of Hanwha Intelligence, said, "Born from a win-win cooperation system between large corporations and SMEs, Hanwha Intelligence will make every effort to secure core semiconductor-based sensor source technologies," adding, "We will create new markets by developing various sensors applicable not only to night vision for autonomous vehicles but also to mobile devices."
Hanwha Systems completed a capital injection of 18.3 billion KRW on the 15th and secured a 50.83% stake.
Meanwhile, on the same day as the launch ceremony, Hanwha Intelligence attended the Daejeon K-Sensor Valley establishment ceremony as a representative technology company, expressing its intention to contribute to the K-Sensor Cluster by engaging in ▲sensor demonstration linked to demand industries ▲joint technology development with startups ▲strengthening industry-academia-research networks.
