Received High Scores in 6 Categories, Awarded Best Institution Commendation
[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, received the Best Institution Award for two consecutive years in the local tax delinquency collection evaluation and was granted a special adjustment subsidy of 55.5 million KRW.
This evaluation was conducted by Jeollanam-do targeting 22 cities and counties for the 'Last Year's Delinquency Reduction Evaluation,' and Wando-gun achieved an overwhelming score of 90.3 points across six categories (collection rate, collection scale, collection growth rate, collection consignment, public auction, and write-off performance), ranking first.
The county actively carried out on-site collection activities by frequently visiting towns and townships to issue license plate seizures (pre-notification) on delinquent vehicles, thereby promptly resolving delinquent automobile taxes, which account for 47.8% of the total delinquent amount.
Additionally, they held collection strategy meetings to check the progress in towns and townships and discussed issues and countermeasures during the collection process.
For delinquent taxpayers facing difficult economic situations, installment payments were arranged to pay a fixed amount monthly to improve the delinquency collection rate, and simple delinquent taxpayers were regularly notified of their delinquency status through alert text message services.
During the collection process, upon learning of a complainant’s situation where a vehicle inherited could not be transferred to another person, they resolved the issue through public auction, demonstrating proactive administration to alleviate the difficulties of delinquent taxpayers.
An Tae-ho, head of the Tax Accounting Division, stated, “Despite the difficult circumstances caused by COVID-19, we received the Best Award due to customized collection administrative achievements,” and added, “The prize money will be used to purchase advanced delinquency equipment systems.”
He also said, “We will do our best in collection administration until the last moment, one month before the fiscal year closure, to minimize carryover delinquent amounts and contribute to improving fiscal soundness.”
