[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] On the 29th, it was announced that the 2022 budget plan for Miryang City, Gyeongnam Province, was submitted to the city council with the largest-ever scale of 941.1 billion KRW (general account 860.3 billion KRW, special account 80.8 billion KRW), an increase of 87 billion KRW (10.19%) compared to this year.


The general account revenue consists of local tax income of 90.1 billion KRW (9.6%), non-tax revenue of 21.7 billion KRW (4.2%), local allocation tax of 411.7 billion KRW (43.8%), adjustment grants of 27.8 billion KRW (3%), and national and provincial subsidies of 286.3 billion KRW (33%).


The city has set six key expenditure visions for next year: establishing a green ecosystem foundation for the nano convergence industry, aggressive corporate attraction, completing the smart 6th agriculture capital through differentiated agricultural policies, building a cultural tourism ecosystem in the With-Corona era, strengthening urban competitiveness with citizen safety as the top priority, life-cycle-based education and welfare policies, and citizen-centered communication administration.


To this end, the expenditure budget by sector was organized as follows: social welfare 222.5 billion KRW (25.9%), agriculture, forestry, marine and fisheries sector 113.4 billion KRW (13.2%), land and regional development 110.8 billion KRW (12.9%), environment sector 74.9 billion KRW (16.9%), and culture and tourism 62.4 billion KRW (6.7%).


Major projects include the creation of a sports park with 9.7 billion KRW, smart green city with 7.2 billion KRW, Yeongnam Alps Ecotourism Center with 6.4 billion KRW, Miryang Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Education Center with 6.4 billion KRW, agricultural and fishery subsidies with 6.3 billion KRW, and rural theme park with 4.2 billion KRW.


Mayor Park Il-ho said, "The budget plan for next year was prepared to recover the local economy and daily life, which have been stagnant due to COVID-19, and to ensure that major city projects can proceed as planned," adding, "I hope the budget plan will be well reflected by the council."


The budget plan for next year is scheduled to be finalized at the last plenary session on December 16 after deliberation and resolution during the 232nd regular session of the Miryang City Council, which opened on the 25th.
