100% Replacement of Asphalt Concrete Natural Aggregates with Steel Slag Recycling! Leading Eco-Friendly Port Development
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Cha Min-sik) announced on the 29th that it conducted a trial application of steel slag asphalt concrete (Anti-flow Steel Slag Asphalt Concrete, ASSA) on roads within Gwangyang Port in mutual cooperation with local Gwangyang companies to promote resource circulation and enhance road safety.
Steel slag asphalt concrete is a recycled aggregate made by replacing natural aggregate with steel slag, a byproduct of the steel production process, and it has excellent friction and resistance to plastic deformation.
This paving work is especially meaningful as it used 100% steel slag asphalt concrete in the plastic deformation section of the port road within Gwangyang Port, which can reduce environmental damage caused by waste circulation and quarry development.
Additionally, steel slag asphalt concrete is cheaper compared to general and recycled asphalt concrete, generating economic benefits such as reducing project costs and saving the budget for aggregate purchase.
Choi Sang-heon, Vice President of the Authority (Head of Development Business Division), stated, "Through this trial application, we will consider expanding its use in future port road paving works and large-scale construction projects," adding, "We plan to actively respond to the government's eco-friendly policy direction."
