Kim Young-sun, Buk-gu Council Member, Calls for Childcare Allowance Payment to Multicultural Families Abroad Kim Young-soon, Gwangju Buk-gu Council Member.

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] On the 25th, Kim Youngsoon, a member of the Gwangju Buk-gu Council, pointed out the issue of non-payment of childcare allowances during long-term overseas stays of children from multicultural families at the 2021 Economic Welfare Committee administrative audit, and called for system improvements on the 29th.

Councilor Kim Youngsoon expressed concern, saying, "Currently, childcare allowances are suspended for children who stay overseas for more than 90 days," and "Children from multicultural families may be excluded from receiving childcare allowances even when they visit and reside for a long time in the countries where their paternal or maternal families live."

She continued, "It is natural that the length of stay becomes longer when visiting paternal or maternal families, which they cannot often visit due to circumstances," and "Multicultural families should be given exceptions."

Councilor Kim Youngsoon said, "Experiencing the culture in the parents' country and spending time with family members living abroad to understand that country is also a form of education," and urged, "Please improve the system so that childcare allowances are not withheld during long-term stays in the relevant countries, allowing children from multicultural families to grow into healthy future generations in our society."
