Female Executives Discuss 'Gender Diversity'... Online Roundtable Held

Discussion Forum Held with Over 70 Female Managers from Public and Private Sectors

Female Executives Discuss 'Gender Diversity'... Online Roundtable Held

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will hold a roundtable discussion on the theme of 'Enhancing Gender Diversity within Organizations' online on the 30th, with about 70 female senior managers from public institutions and private companies.

In South Korea, the proportion of female executives in the public sector exceeds 20%, and the proportion of female executives in listed companies is gradually increasing to 5.2% this year. Nevertheless, in the Glass Ceiling Index evaluation by The Economist, which comprehensively measures the status of women in the labor market, South Korea ranks 29th out of 29 OECD countries.

Gender diversity and inclusion are emerging as important elements of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management, and overseas, they are regarded as values directly linked to organizational growth and sustainability. Although systems to secure gender diversity on the boards of companies with over 2 trillion won in assets have been implemented in South Korea, it is now time for a shift in members’ awareness and efforts on the ground.

The roundtable discussion for female senior managers hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family is part of the Women Talent Academy project and will proceed with a keynote speech followed by breakout discussions.

In the first part of the discussion, Kim Eun-kyung, Director of the Sejong Leadership Development Institute, will deliver a keynote speech on ‘Leadership for Securing Gender Diversity.’ She will talk about creating an inclusive organizational culture, the challenges for female leaders, and the importance of securing gender diversity.

In the second part, female senior managers will share their experiences in breakout discussions and discuss support and implementation strategies necessary for fostering and spreading a gender-equal organizational culture, expanding women’s participation in economic activities, and strengthening their capabilities.

Jeong Young-ae, Minister of Gender Equality and Family, said, "Securing gender diversity is a driving force for innovative organizational growth and will become a new momentum toward a truly gender-equal society. The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will actively support the establishment of a gender-equal organizational culture and enable women to fully demonstrate their abilities in all areas of society."
