Continued School-Linked Cluster Infections in Gwangju... 61 New Confirmed Cases

According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 28th, 61 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19 in one day yesterday. This is the highest record except for the 20th, when 70 patients occurred in the past two weeks.

By infection route, 17 additional cases related to a daycare center in Gwangsan-gu were confirmed, increasing the cumulative total to 20.

Transmission began on the 27th through a granddaughter infected by contact with confirmed grandparents.

Fourteen cases related to an elementary school in Seo-gu were reported, and additional confirmed cases were identified through a full investigation after the index patient appeared on the 27th. The cumulative total is currently 15.

One case related to a middle school in Gwangsan-gu and four cases related to Middle School B in Seo-gu were recorded.

Among the new confirmed cases, 36 are infections among infants to students, accounting for more than half.

Four cases are related to confirmed patients from other cities such as Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, and 10 cases are related to prior confirmed patients within the region.

Eight people who tested positive through symptomatic testing have not yet had their infection routes identified.
