[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized on the 28th that “Honam is the disciplinary rod of the Democratic Party.”
At the ‘Gwangju Great Transformation Election Committee Launch Ceremony’ held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju, Lee said, “We will put down all the remaining vested interests within us and start anew,” adding, “We will respond to Honam’s expectations again as a completely reformed Democratic Party.”
Lee stated, “We will make sure that the phrase ‘Honam is the Democratic Party’s stronghold’ will no longer be used within the Democratic Party,” and said, “Honam is not the ‘stronghold’ of the Democratic Party but its ‘disciplinary rod’ and ‘switch’.” He continued, “We will firmly complete the values, spirit, and democratic reform tasks that Honam has longed for, so that our Honam citizens can love the Democratic Party boundlessly again.”
Introducing Nam Jin-hee, a third-year student at Gwangju Girls' High School and co-chair of the Gwangju joint election committee, Lee said, “She is an 18-year-old high school girl and has served as the president of the student council at Gwangju High School,” and described her as “a youth activist who has worked hard to expand the political basic rights of young people.” Nam said, “I stand here to raise the voices of youth and young adults for South Korea to develop in the right direction,” adding, “I hope for a president with a clear philosophy and vision, a president who keeps promises, a president who protects everyone’s safety, a president who listens to and empathizes with our stories, and a president who is always with the people.”
