[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, made a bold move by appointing an 18-year-old high school student as a co-chair of the election campaign committee.
On the 28th, Lee announced 10 co-chairs of the campaign committee, including Nam Jin-hee (18), a third-year student at Gwangju Girls' High School, at the launch ceremony of the 'Gwangju Great Transformation Campaign Committee' held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju. Introducing Nam, the candidate said, "She is an 18-year-old high school girl and served as the president of the student council at Gwangju High School," adding, "She is a youth activist who has worked hard to expand the political basic rights of young people."
Nam said, "I stand here to raise the voice of youth for the proper development of the Republic of Korea," and added, "I hope for a president with a clear philosophy and vision. I want a president who keeps promises. I want a president who protects everyone's safety. I want a president who listens to and empathizes with our stories. I want a president who is always with the people."
She also jokingly mentioned, "Until two days ago, I didn't know I would be here," adding, "Let's live long and see."
The Gwangju campaign committee showed a characteristic of being filled with young generations, except for lawmaker Song Gap-seok.
