Among 10 Former Committee Chairs, 9 Are Youth Except Lawmaker Song Gap-seok
Lee Jae-myung: "We Will Create a World Where Youth Enjoy Opportunities and Can Dream of the Future"
On the 28th, at the launch ceremony of the Democratic Party of Korea's Gwangju Election Countermeasures Committee, candidate Lee Jae-myung and the co-chairmen of the election countermeasures committee are taking a commemorative photo while expressing their determination.
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, launched his first regional election campaign committee nationwide in Gwangju.
The Democratic Party Gwangju City Party held the "Gwangju Election Campaign Committee Launch Ceremony" on the 28th at 3 p.m. in the large conference room on the 4th floor of the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju.
The Gwangju campaign committee fully appointed 2030 youth as campaign committee chairpersons in line with Lee’s intention to reform the central campaign committee.
Among the 10 co-chairpersons, all except Song Gap-seok, the chairman of the Gwangju City Party, were composed of young people.
It included an 18-year-old high school senior student, and the gender ratio was balanced with five women and five men.
Not only the campaign committee chairpersons but also Kang Su-hoon, head of the presidential pledge planning office of the Gwangju City Party, was appointed as the standing head of the campaign headquarters who will practically lead the election, and many young people were also appointed to key positions such as the spokesperson group.
About 300 people attended the launch ceremony, including candidate Lee, Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil, Song Gap-seok, chairman of the Gwangju City Party, local lawmakers, and political figures.
Before his greeting, Leader Song Young-gil introduced an anecdote about a senior who participated in the May 18 Democratic Movement and passed away, then said, “Candidate Lee implemented the best policies among metropolitan local governments such as Seongnam Medical Center during his tenure as mayor of Seongnam and governor of Gyeonggi Province,” and added, “If we entrust the Republic of Korea to Lee, who changed Seongnam and Gyeonggi Province, he will change the Republic of Korea.”
At 3 p.m. on the 28th, Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate, is greeting attendees at the launch ceremony of the Democratic Party Gwangju Election Countermeasures Committee held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju Metropolitan City.
Candidate Lee said, “Honam is not the Democratic Party’s stronghold but its disciplinary stick,” and explained, “The fact that there is no Democratic Party without Honam, and no Lee Jae-myung without Honam, is because Honam is not the Democratic Party’s stronghold but a wake-up call like a disciplinary stick.”
He continued, “I will regain the hearts of Honam. I want to ask you to become the main players today, like the spirit of the Gwangju campaign committee launching today,” emphasizing this.
He also said, “I am truly sorry for leaving this harsh world to the 2030 generation. However, we cannot stop here, nor should we stop,” and asserted, “We will restore growth to increase the total amount of opportunities, and in this process, create a country where young people are not afraid of failure and can challenge themselves.”
He said, “Today, for the first time nationwide, a regional campaign committee was launched in Gwangju. It is also a youth campaign committee,” and stressed, “Gwangju has started the engine for change and innovation. The attempt from Gwangju resonates greatly even in the central campaign committee.”
Regarding his vision related to youth, he said, “We must create a world where young people can enjoy opportunities and dream of the future,” and explained, “We cannot entrust the future of our country to people without philosophy or historical awareness. Politicians should be servants of the people, not rulers.”
He added, “I will become an economic president who prioritizes the economy, a livelihood president who thinks only of the people’s welfare, and a competent reform president who delivers results,” and concluded, “I will live up to the expectations of Gwangju, Honam, and the Democratic Party.”
