[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, said regarding the appointment of former lawmaker Kim Seong-tae, who is on trial for allegations of preferential hiring of his daughter, as the head of the Functional Headquarters of the Election Committee, "Since it is an election organization for a short period, I don't think I was very conscious of it."
On the day, after holding the launch ceremony of the Youth Committee directly under the candidate at a cafe in Yeouido, Seoul, Yoon told reporters, "Usually, the chairman of the Central Committee has managed the organization," explaining that since former lawmaker Kim was serving as the chairman of the Central Committee, he naturally took on the role of head of the Functional Headquarters.
Earlier, Yoon had mentioned regarding the selection of former lawmaker Kim the previous day, "The case is somewhat old, so I don't remember well."
In response, the Democratic Party criticized, saying, "Candidate Yoon is the very person who caused former lawmaker Kim to be indicted without detention on July 21, 2019, for the daughter's unfair hiring."
Regarding this, Yoon said, "I was not in charge of that case at the prosecution, and I heard about it through the media," adding, "I also heard that he was acquitted around 2017 or 2018."
