Sejong City to Provide Subsidies for 100 Electric Cars up to 8.2 Million KRW Each

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City will expand the supply of passenger electric vehicles next month.

The city announced on the 28th that, in consultation with the Ministry of Environment, it has received an additional national subsidy allocation of 800 million KRW and will accept applications for additional passenger electric vehicle supply from the 1st to the 31st of next month.

The total subsidy amount is 820 million KRW, which includes 20 million KRW of local government funds corresponding to the national subsidy, allowing support of up to 8.2 million KRW per electric vehicle. The support amount varies depending on the vehicle model, with ultra-small electric vehicles eligible for a subsidy of 4.1 million KRW.

Recipients will be determined in the order of vehicle delivery and registration. However, the city prioritizes individuals and individual business owners as subsidy recipients to prevent specific companies, such as rental car firms, from receiving concentrated subsidies.

Subsidy applications may close early within the period if the budget is exhausted. The eligible vehicle models include 72 types designated by the government, consisting of 67 general passenger vehicles and 5 ultra-small vehicles that have completed the Ministry of Environment's certification process. Applicants must be citizens aged 18 or older residing in Sejong, as well as companies, corporations, and public institutions.

Electric vehicle purchasers should visit the car dealership of their desired model to sign a purchase contract and submit the purchase support application form through the dealership.

For more detailed information, please refer to the city’s website or the Ministry of Environment’s Low Emission Vehicle Integrated website where the announcement is posted.
