Genesis GV80, Volvo XC90, and Others Selected as Top Preferred SUVs
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Encar.com announced on the 27th that, as a result of a consumer survey on the ‘most desired leisure SUVs,’ the Genesis GV80 was the most chosen domestic vehicle, while the Volvo XC90 was the top imported vehicle.
The survey, conducted from the 4th to the 11th of this month with a total of 1,445 participants, targeted 10 popular SUV and RV models each from domestic and imported brands.
According to the survey results, the Genesis GV80 ranked first among domestic vehicles with 25.81% of the votes. Respondents who chose the GV80 cited its ‘luxurious design sensibility’ and suitability for ‘luxury camping and golf activities’ as reasons.
Following that, the Kia Carnival, known for its spacious interior and cargo space, took second place with 18.75%, overwhelmingly favored by consumers with large families.
The third place went to the Hyundai Palisade, which recorded 17.23% of the votes, praised for its body size and interior space befitting a large SUV. Other models included the Chevrolet Traverse (8.44%) and Kia Sorento (6.30%), ranking fourth and fifth respectively.
For imported vehicles, the top five rankings were closely contested with similar vote percentages. The Volvo XC90 took first place with 18.41%, with the majority of respondents overwhelmingly citing ‘safety’ as their reason for choice.
Notably, among imported vehicles, several SUV models offering an ‘off-road sensibility’ ranked highly. The Land Rover Discovery came in second with 15.64%, chosen for its ‘stylish exterior design’ and ‘off-road sensibility,’ followed closely by the BMW X5 in third place with 15.43%.
The BMW X5 attracted significant votes from the 20s and 30s age group, drawing attention. Fourth place was the Jeep Wrangler with 14.19%, recognized as the ‘off-road icon and powerhouse suitable for remote camping,’ and fifth place was taken by the Mercedes-Benz GLE.
In response to the question about ‘main leisure activities enjoyed,’ camping overwhelmingly topped the list across all age groups, reflecting the rapidly expanding camping culture in recent years, ranging from car camping to glamping and remote camping. Following camping, many consumers responded with ‘golf’ and ‘fishing.’
An Encar.com official stated, “SUVs have long emerged as mainstream in the automotive market, not only due to their spacious interiors and cargo capacity suitable for multiple passengers and bulky or numerous items but also because they now offer comfortable rides. These consumer needs align with leisure trends, leading SUVs to show stronger price retention compared to other vehicle types in the used car market.”
