COVID-19 Daily Deaths Reach Record High of 52... New Cases Back to 4,000s

As the spread of COVID-19 continues following the 'Phased Return to Daily Life (With Corona),' more than 4,000 new confirmed cases were reported again on the 27th.

The number of new deaths exceeded 50, marking the highest daily death toll ever, and the number of critically ill patients was recorded in the 600s, setting a record high for five consecutive days.

The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on that day, 4,068 new confirmed cases were added, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 436,968.

The number of new confirmed cases increased by 167 compared to the previous day (3,901), and it was 863 more than the confirmed cases last Friday (3,205, based on the announcement date of Saturday the 20th).

The 468 new confirmed cases represent the second-largest scale since the domestic COVID-19 outbreak and mark the third day in three days with over 4,000 cases since the first 4,000-level cases were recorded on the 24th (4,115 cases).

In particular, for the first time, over 1,800 confirmed cases were reported in the Seoul area, indicating that the spread centered around the metropolitan area is gradually increasing.

The number of deaths due to COVID-19 was 52. This is the highest daily death toll since the COVID-19 outbreak, 13 more than the previous record of 39 deaths the day before.

The cumulative number of deaths is 3,492, and the domestic cumulative fatality rate is 0.80%.

The number of critically ill patients was recorded at 634, marking three consecutive days in the 600s.

The number of critically ill patients has increased for five consecutive days, recording 549 on the 23rd, 586 on the 24th, 612 on the 25th, 617 on the 26th, and 634 on this day, setting a new record high each day.
