[Exclusive] Oh Se-hoon Deals 'Iron Fist' to Seoul Water Reuse Facilities Corporation Following Seoul Metro... 6 Executives Including Senior Officials Dismissed

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Since being elected through the April 7 by-election and taking office, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has focused on auditing issues related to the subway dust collection facilities of Seoul Metro Corporation, requesting an investigation of related executives by investigative agencies, and has now drawn attention by also cracking down on the Seoul Water Reuse Facilities Corporation.

This appears to be a strong expression of Mayor Oh's determination to no longer tolerate corruption within Seoul's affiliated institutions.

The Seoul Water Reuse Facilities Corporation, which operates the Tancheon sewage treatment plant and the Seonam Center, recently faced its worst crisis since its establishment this year as a Seoul city-affiliated corporation, with six people being dismissed and referred for investigation by the Seoul city government, among other strong disciplinary actions.

Over the past few months, Seoul City conducted a large-scale audit of the corporation, confirming collusion between executives and contractors, leading to these measures.

As a result, the corporation is reportedly experiencing significant difficulties in organizational management due to the suspension of technical executives.

In particular, it has been reported that executives from specific occupational groups within Seoul City working at the corporation and their close relationships with related industries were problematic.

Additionally, the corporation has been facing difficulties such as a strike last month, when the labor union demanded a sudden wage increase of 4.2 billion won.

A corporation official expressed reluctance, stating, “As a public enterprise acting on behalf of Seoul City, the corporation can only raise employees' wages with Seoul City's approval.”
