[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeonnam Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 26th that it will carry out the "Give Old Batteries, Get New Batteries" campaign to promote proper disposal of used batteries.
The campaign will be conducted for 10 days from the 1st to the 10th of next month, targeting all residents, businesses, institutions, and organizations in the county.
During the campaign period, residents can bring used batteries from their homes or workplaces to the Eup/Myeon Administrative Welfare Centers and exchange them for new batteries.
Ten used batteries can be exchanged for one set (2 pieces) of new batteries. However, the exchange is limited to a maximum of 10 sets per person.
Batteries commonly used in daily life for door locks, remote controls, toys, etc., can be recycled to recover valuable metal resources such as iron and zinc.
However, if disposed of as general waste and buried, they cause environmental pollution such as soil and water contamination.
Through the "Give Old Batteries, Get New Batteries" campaign, the county plans to encourage residents to participate in green environmental practices in their daily lives.
A county official said, "We need to establish a culture of separating and disposing of used batteries to conserve the environment and save resources," adding, "We hope this campaign will serve as an opportunity for many residents to take an active interest and participate in proper disposal."
