[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit is conducting a search and seizure of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office's Information and Communications Department on the 26th in connection with allegations of the leak of the indictment by Lee Seong-yoon, the Seoul High Prosecutor General.
The Investigation Division 3 of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (Chief Prosecutor Choi Seok-gyu) dispatched prosecutors and investigators to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office Information and Communications Department around 10 a.m. to execute a search and seizure warrant on the server.
The Unit is reportedly attempting to check the internal network messenger of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office investigation team, which indicted Lee on May 12 on charges of exerting undue influence in the investigation of former Deputy Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui's illegal travel ban.
The Unit received a complaint about the indictment leak case of Prosecutor General Lee from the Citizens' Action for Judicial Justice and has been investigating since May. The case became controversial as the contents of Lee's indictment were reported by the media before the concerned party even received it. While the Supreme Prosecutors' Office is conducting its own fact-finding investigation, the Unit has also launched its own probe.
