[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Ju-hyung] A couple running a small to medium-sized mart faced the crisis of having to close their store as the wife’s illness worsened, but members of a mom cafe stepped in with a 'donjjul' campaign, touching many hearts. Donjjul is a newly coined term combining the words 'money' and 'punishment,' referring to netizens pooling money to perform good deeds or help those in unfortunate situations.

On the 24th, a post titled "For the Mart Owner Facing Closure" was uploaded on a mom cafe used by residents of Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. The writer explained that the wife of a couple running a small to medium-sized mart near Yongin City was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, and they were soon forced to close their store.

The writer said, "The couple’s situation is very heartbreaking. The husband tried to keep running the mart as his livelihood, but their fourth-grade elementary school child, left alone at home, developed serious emotional issues, so they decided to close the store without any plan to save the child first."

They added, "The husband’s current wish is to sell as many items in the store as possible, including non-returnable products, before closing."

The mom cafe designated the post containing the couple’s heartbreaking story as a cafe notice. After seeing the post, netizens using the cafe immediately headed to the mart mentioned in the story.

Since then, posts and photos certifying the 'donjjul' have been uploaded on the mom cafe. As of 8 a.m. on the 26th, two days after the post was made, more than 70 donjjul posts had been uploaded on the cafe. Photos of empty shelves after all items were sold appeared, and a post certifying a customer’s purchase of over 600,000 won in a single shopping trip also became a hot topic.

One member who purchased items at the mart said, "It seemed many people came after hearing the news because the inside of the store was busy. Even so, the owner was very kind," adding, "I came to help even a little, but I returned feeling deeply comforted and grateful, as if my small heart was ashamed compared to the great support I received."

Netizens who heard the donjjul news responded with touching comments such as, "The world is still worth living in," "Praying for the couple’s future to go well," "I hope the wife overcomes this and regains her health," and "It’s a heartwarming end of the year."
