[Asia Economy Reporter Ji-hwan Park] The KOSPI is showing a slight decline in the early session due to institutional selling pressure.


On the 26th, as of 9:19 AM, the KOSPI stood at 2,974.16, down 6.11 points (-0.21%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 2,973.04, down 7.23 points from the previous day.


By investor type, individuals and foreigners are net buyers with 69.2 billion KRW and 40.5 billion KRW respectively. In contrast, institutions are net sellers with 112.7 billion KRW.


Among the top 10 market capitalization stocks, performance was mixed. Samsung Electronics (-0.27%), NAVER (-1.13%), Kakao (-0.39%), Hyundai Motor (-0.71%), and Kia (-0.73%) declined. Meanwhile, SK Hynix (0.43%), Samsung Biologics (0.24%), and Samsung SDI (0.28%) rose.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ rose 2.60 points (0.26%) from the previous day to 1,018.26. It opened at 1,017.90, up 2.24 points from the previous trading day.


By investor type, foreigners and institutions are net sellers with 48.4 billion KRW and 3.3 billion KRW respectively. Individuals are net buyers with 56.3 billion KRW.


Among the top 10 market capitalization stocks, most rose. Celltrion Healthcare (1.31%), EcoPro BM (1.25%), Pearl Abyss (0.31%), L&F (2.13%), Kakao Games (0.40%), WeMade (2.41%), and Celltrion Pharm (2.13%) increased. Conversely, SK Materials (-2.06%) and HLB (-1.42%) declined.


Yoon-chul Park, a researcher at Hi Investment & Securities, said, "It is positive that the stock market rose despite the spread of COVID-19 in Europe," adding, "While a rebound buying is expected following the recent market decline, the extent of the rise is likely to be limited."
