[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Jin-tae stated on the 25th that the 'date violence crime by nephew' defended by Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, on the 24th was "not an impulsive act of violence during a date, but a serial murder case by a gang."

Kim, a former lawmaker, wrote on his Facebook on the 25th, "Candidate Lee said that he had no choice but to defend his nephew who committed a serious date violence crime in the past," adding, "Hearing this alone, one might think it was an impulsive act of violence during a date, but this case was a 'serial murder case by a gang.'

Earlier, on the 24th, Candidate Lee confessed on his Facebook, "One of my relatives committed a serious date violence crime in the past, but the family could not afford to hire a lawyer, so as the only lawyer in the family, I had no choice but to take on the defense," adding, "This case is a painful memory that I can never erase in my lifetime." Candidate Lee served as the first and second trial defense attorney for his nephew A, who stabbed and killed his ex-girlfriend and her mother multiple times with a knife in 2006 after she broke up with him.

Former lawmaker Kim explained, "When Lee's nephew's girlfriend said she wanted to break up, he decided to confront her parents about the reason, purchased a 21cm kitchen knife and five rolls of transparent packing tape, and went to his ex-girlfriend's house," adding, "In the course of the conversation, he flew into a rage and wielded the knife. The ex-girlfriend's father jumped from the 5th floor of an apartment and suffered injuries requiring 12 weeks of treatment, while the ex-girlfriend and her mother were stabbed 19 and 18 times respectively, killing them on the spot."

He continued, "Two were convicted of murder, and one of attempted murder, receiving life sentences confirmed in February 2007. Lee's nephew was reportedly a middle school member of the International Mafia faction," criticizing, "If he were not part of a gang, it would be difficult to commit such a bold and brutal act."

He further pointed out, "Candidate Lee also defended Kim, a member of the International Mafia faction, in 2007. Even so, will Candidate Lee claim he has no connection to gangs?"
