[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A tranquil country house was actually a marijuana cultivation farm!

On the 25th, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency announced that they arrested two men in their 30s, including the main suspect Mr. A, who cultivated marijuana at a remote country house on a mountain in Gyeongnam, and sent Mr. A to prosecution in custody.

It was investigated that they cultivated a large amount of marijuana indoors at the country house from February 2020 to July this year.

According to the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Violent Crime Investigation Unit, Mr. A and others conspired to secretly cultivate marijuana indoors, then equipped the country house on the mountain in Gyeongnam with various facilities necessary for indoor cultivation such as lighting, humidity, and temperature control, and cultivated about 300 marijuana plants.

After receiving intelligence, the police cooperated with Busan Customs in the investigation. The suspects imported cultivation supplies several times through overseas direct purchase, and Busan Customs informed the police about the import information.

The police seized 60 marijuana plants being cultivated on site, 150g of manufactured marijuana, 1.3kg of marijuana seeds, and about 30 various cultivation tools, and began tracing the distribution routes.

The police also arrested 33 drug users, including men in their 20s who habitually used marijuana and ecstasy in Busan, Seoul, and other areas, and 10 suppliers including men in their 40s who sold drugs to them.

A total of 45 drug offenders were arrested this time, among whom 6 were detained on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act, and 39 were booked without detention.

A Busan police official said, “Recently, there have been cases not only of smuggled narcotics being distributed domestically but also of marijuana being secretly cultivated and narcotics being directly produced and supplied within the country. We plan to strengthen crackdowns on narcotics supply.”
