[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] Wavve, a leading domestic online video service (OTT) presenting original content across various genres such as dramas, movies, entertainment shows, and documentaries, is partnering with specialized production companies to develop new content.
Studio Wavve, a subsidiary of OTT service Wavve, announced on the 25th that it signed an agreement for content planning and development cooperation with NAK Entertainment at NAK Entertainment’s headquarters in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Studio Wavve was established in May this year to plan and develop Wavve original content, with Lee Chan-ho, Head of Content Strategy at Wavve, serving as CEO. Their first planned project, the drama "Tracer" starring Im Si-wan, Son Hyun-joo, and Go Ah-sung, is scheduled to be released as a Wavve original this winter.
This agreement is a move to expand original content intellectual property (IP). Following the global OTT giant Netflix, Disney Plus (Disney+) and Apple TV Plus (Apple TV+) have recently launched services in Korea, making the original content strategies of domestic OTTs even more crucial. Wavve and Studio Wavve plan to accelerate the development of entertainment and drama IPs through this partnership.
NAK Entertainment, which Studio Wavve has partnered with, actively collaborates with domestic broadcasters, production companies, and global platforms in original content planning, production, investment, and global content IP development and distribution. The entertainment program "Shall We Write Our Love? The Romance," developed by NAK Entertainment, has been broadcast in the Americas, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Japan through global video platforms Rakuten Viki, Japan’s Fuji TV FOD, and the Japanese Hallyu-specialized channel KNTV.
Lee Chan-ho, CEO of Studio Wavve, said, “We have decided to actively cooperate with NAK Entertainment to develop creative content. We will discover great content and strengthen the Wavve original lineup.” Sung Joo-hwa, CEO of NAK Entertainment, stated, “Through close collaboration with Studio Wavve, we will present many entertaining contents. We expect broad exchanges and cooperation not only domestically but also in the global IP business sector.”
