[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Electronics announced on the 25th that the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) front camera developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz won the Gold Award, the highest honor in hardware development, at the global conference 'AutoSens Online 2021.' Additionally, the company jointly received the Silver Award with Mercedes-Benz in the '2020 Vision Awards' category.

AutoSens is a community of experts in ADAS, autonomous driving, and artificial intelligence (AI) that has been holding conferences since 2015, selecting and awarding companies with innovative achievements each year. Due to COVID-19, the event was held online last year and this year.

The ADAS front camera serves as the 'eyes' of the vehicle and is a key component that collects various traffic information. Applying an algorithm independently developed by LG Electronics' Vehicle Component Solutions (VS) Business Division, it provides various functions including ▲Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) ▲Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) ▲Lane Departure Warning (LDW) ▲Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) ▲Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) ▲Intelligent Headlight Control (IHC).

At the event held the previous day, LG Electronics and Mercedes-Benz delivered a joint keynote speech. The two companies presented the ADAS front camera of the Mercedes-Benz 'The New C-Class' released this year and the collaborative process for mass production of this component.

Mercedes-Benz introduced the reasons for selecting LG Electronics as a partner and the development process of the ADAS front camera. Benjamin Max of Mercedes-Benz said, "We overcame differences in culture, infrastructure, and experience between the two companies with a perfect 'one team' spirit," adding, "This collaboration was a leap forward for innovation."

LG Electronics shared the strengths of the mass-produced ADAS front camera and impressions of the collaboration. Park Young-kyung, Senior Researcher at LG Electronics VS Business Division, explained, "This product meets the safety regulations of the global automotive safety assessment program 'Euro NCAP' and incorporates LG Electronics' accumulated know-how in various fields such as mobile communications, connectivity, and artificial intelligence." He added, "The two companies operated the project based on an agile process, which enhanced development efficiency."

LG Electronics stated that it plans to diversify its vehicle component business portfolio and proactively respond to the diverse demands of automakers. Kim Jin-yong, Vice President and Head of LG Electronics VS Business Division, said, "This award is the result of efforts to realize customer value," and added, "We will continuously contribute to mobility innovation and strengthen our vehicle component business."
