The National Theater Presents the Play 'Bulgeun Nakyeop' at Baek Seonghui Jang Minho Theater

Play 'Red Maple Leaf'

The National Theater Company of Korea (Artistic Director Kim Kwang-bo) will present the play "Bulgeun Nakyeop" by Theater Company Bae-da at the Baek Seong-hee Jang Min-ho Theater of the National Theater from the 8th to the 27th of next month.

Based on the novel "Red Leaves" by Thomas Cook, a leading American mystery novelist, the play "Bulgeun Nakyeop" won several awards at the 42nd Seoul Theater Festival last May, including the Excellence Award (Group category), Acting Award (Park Wan-gyu), New Actor Award (Jang Seok-hwan), and Stage Art Award (Shin Seung-ryeol).

The play depicts the daily life of Eric, who has struggled to create a better life and family, beginning to be completely shaken when his son Jimmy is identified as the prime suspect in the disappearance of the neighbor girl Amy. "Bulgeun Nakyeop" tragically portrays how relationships believed to be solid gradually collapse due to a moment of doubt, maintaining tension throughout the performance. Actor Park Wan-gyu plays Eric, who is caught in the impulse to "know the truth," showing his inner emotions in a multi-dimensional way. Actor Jang Seok-hwan, playing Jimmy, powerfully yet delicately expresses the boy’s feelings of injustice and resentment as someone trusted by no one.

Kim Kwang-bo, Artistic Director of the National Theater Company, said, "Recently, many plays that deconstruct or reconstruct works have been staged, but 'Bulgeun Nakyeop' will be an opportunity to experience the essence of theater based on a solid narrative after a long time." He added, "The devastating consequences arising from doubt in the work will give us something to think about as we live in an era full of distrust."

The National Theater Company operates a reservation system called ‘One Seat Gap Between Companions’. Groups can select up to four consecutive seats, and a one-seat gap is automatically assigned on both sides of the selected seats. After the performance ends on December 12, a ‘Conversation with Artists’ will be held, featuring director Lee Jun-woo, adapter Kim Do-young, actor Park Wan-gyu, and others.
