A group viewing was held at Megabox Nampo Hang branch to support Pohang Steelers, who advanced to the 2021 AFC Champions League.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Pohang Steelers football team reached the final of the ‘2021 AFC Champions League (ACL)’ for the first time in 12 years and secured the runner-up position.
Pohang Steelers faced Al Hilal FC in the final held on the 23rd local time at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Responding to the demands of Pohang fans, for whom away support is not easy, Pohang Steelers rented Megabox Nampo Pohang to organize a group viewing.
About 120 Pohang citizens, including Mayor Lee Kang-deok, Oh Yeom-man, President of Pohang City Football Association, and the Secretary General of Gangwon-do Pohang City Sports Council, who applied to watch online, participated together.
The gathered group complied with COVID-19 related movie theater vaccine pass operation quarantine guidelines, including verification of completion of the second vaccine dose, temperature checks, QR code authentication, mask-wearing, and prohibition of vocal cheering.
Although Pohang Steelers narrowly missed the championship trophy with a 2-0 loss after a fierce 90-minute match, they received cheers from fans by delivering dramatic battles throughout the ACL games.
The team will return to Korea on the 25th (Korean time) and prepare for the 37th round away match against Incheon on the 28th, followed by the final match of the season, the 38th round of the K League against Seoul at Pohang Steel Yard on December 4.
Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “Congratulations to Pohang Steelers on their runner-up finish,” adding, “It was a time full of hope and vitality that we can soon return to normal life.”
