Korea's 'Nobel Prize Nominee-Level' Scholars Engage in Communication with the Public


[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] South Korea's leading scientists are stepping forward to communicate with the public.


The Institute for Basic Science (IBS) announced on the 24th that, in celebration of its 10th anniversary, it has prepared lectures by research group leaders to promote science popularization and strengthen the capabilities of young researchers.


On the 26th at 7 PM, the 'Basic Science Scholar Lecture' will be held at the Bluesquare Chaos Hall in Seoul. This is the second public event under the theme 'Science for New Discoveries.'


Yeom Han-woong, head of the IBS Center for Atomic Control of Low-Dimensional Electronic Systems, will give a lecture titled “Is Energy-Free Information Transmission and Processing Possible?” Hyun Taek-hwan, head of the IBS Nanoparticle Research Center, will speak on “Development of a Method for Producing Nanoparticles with Uniform Size,” and Myung Kyung-jae, head of the IBS Genome Homeostasis Research Center, will present on “The Efforts of Living Organisms to Maintain Our Genetic Information, DNA.”


On-site participation can be applied for through the website of the co-host Chaos Foundation, and 99 people will be invited by lottery. Anyone can participate online via the Chaos Foundation’s YouTube channel.


IBS has also released online a series of lectures titled “How to Conduct Good Research Told by IBS Research Group Leaders” to enhance the research capabilities of science and engineering students and nurture young researchers. The lectures feature 10 IBS research group leaders, including Kim Bit-nae-ri, head of the RNA Research Center, Oh Yong-geun, head of the Geometric Mathematical Physics Research Center, and Kim Young-duk, head of the Underground Experiment Research Center. The lectures are composed of various content helpful to young scientists, such as research know-how from world-class researchers, paper writing methods, research methodologies, and career paths for scientists. The lectures can be viewed on the IBS YouTube channel.
