[Jeon Du-hwan Death] Blue House: "No Plans for Condolences or Tribute at the Blue House" (Comprehensive)

"Condolences and Comfort to the Bereaved Family"... "Briefing on Death Rather Than Memorial Messages"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] The Blue House announced that there are no plans for flowers or condolences at the Blue House level regarding the death of former President Jeon Du-hwan.

Park Kyung-mi, spokesperson for the Blue House, said during a briefing at the Chuncheon Press Center on the afternoon of the 23rd, "We pray for the repose of former President Jeon Du-hwan and extend our condolences to the bereaved family."

However, Spokesperson Park stated, "We express regret that the truth of history was never revealed and that there was no sincere apology. There are no plans for flowers or condolences at the Blue House level." The Blue House explained that this briefing reflected President Moon Jae-in's intentions.

A senior Blue House official explained the background of the briefing on the day of former President Jeon Du-hwan’s death, noting that a briefing was issued a day later for former President Roh Tae-woo, saying, "This is a spokesperson briefing related to the death of former President Jeon Du-hwan rather than a memorial message. The previous one was a memorial briefing for (former President Roh Tae-woo). There is a clear difference."

The senior Blue House official added, "We expressed condolences as a minimum courtesy to the deceased, and the briefing included the fact that there was no cooperation in uncovering the truth about the May 18 Democratic Movement."

Regarding the use of the title "former President Jeon Du-hwan," the senior Blue House official said, "The title was used out of necessity for the briefing. President Moon Jae-in did not directly refer to him as former President Jeon Du-hwan. It was a title used for the briefing."
