Gwangyang Steelworks Holds 'Sharing Love Kimchi Making' Event

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] On the 23rd, Gwangyang Steelworks in Jeonnam (Director Kim Jiyong) held a ‘Love Kimchi Kimjang’ delivery ceremony, spreading warm emotions.

The delivery ceremony held at Kumho-dong Welfare Center was attended by Lee Cheolho, Deputy Director of the Steelworks, Kim Kyungho, Vice Mayor of Gwangyang City, Lee Yongjae, Member of Jeonnam Provincial Council, Choi Yeoncheol, Vice President of Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority, and Yoon Jiyoung, President of Gwangyang YWCA.

The ‘Love Kimchi Kimjang Sharing’ event is a project that delivers year-end kimchi kimjang to local social welfare facilities and neighbors in need, sharing warm affection with the community. This year, 50 million KRW was donated by the Jeonnam Community Chest designated fund, and 25 million KRW was contributed by Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority.

After the delivery ceremony, the Gwangyang Steelworks Love Sharing Volunteer Group and Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Volunteer Group carefully prepared and delivered 4,000 heads of ‘Love Kimchi Kimjang’ (a total of 1,000 containers) to 23 social welfare facilities in Gwangyang City and about 530 neighboring households in need of care.

In particular, Gwangyang Steelworks added more meaning by using napa cabbages purchased from local farms to grow together with the community. Also, in line with eco-friendly management such as carbon neutrality, this year, 100 kimchi containers made of 100% POSCO stainless steel were used on a trial basis instead of some plastic kimchi containers.

On this day, Lee Cheolho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “Even in difficult situations, I think kimchi shared with neighbors symbolizes a culture of sharing,” and added, “I hope the kimchi we prepared with care this year will bring warm comfort to those who eat it in the cold weather.”

Meanwhile, since 2014, Gwangyang Steelworks has been practicing sharing with local social welfare facilities and neighbors by delivering about 20,000 heads of ‘Love Kimchi Kimjang’ to a total of 3,637 households up to this year.
