Chunggyeongmaru Opens at Jeonnam National University Yeosu Campus

Old Cheongram Hall Renovated, Becoming a New Landmark

Chunggyeongmaru Opens at Jeonnam National University Yeosu Campus

[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] ‘Cheonggyeongmaru’ (formerly Cheongram Hall), which will serve as a bridge between Chonnam National University and the private sector in Yeosu, has been newly renovated and opened.

On the 18th, Chonnam National University held an opening ceremony for Cheonggyeongmaru attended by President Jeong Seong-taek, administrative professors, deans of 17 colleges, and Ahn Gyu-cheol, president of the Yeosu Campus Alumni Association.

Cheonggyeongmaru is a new landmark on the Yeosu Campus, remodeled from the aging former Cheongram Hall with a project cost of 1.86 billion KRW. It will be used as a multi-purpose space for rest, communication, and convenience for campus members.

In particular, it is also open to the Yeosu local community and is expected to serve as a community gathering place connecting local residents and the university.

The new name ‘Cheonggyeongmaru’ combines ‘Cheonggyeong,’ meaning ‘Blue Whale,’ the symbol of the Yeosu Campus, and ‘Maru,’ a pure Korean word meaning ‘sky,’ symbolizing the hope that Yeosu Campus members and local residents will soar high together.

President Jeong Seong-taek said, “Cheonggyeongmaru is no longer just a building but a starting place for students preparing for success and a community room where the university and local residents come together. I hope that dignified and free Chonnam National University members who will lead our country will emerge from Cheonggyeongmaru, and that various discussions for regional development will take place.”
