Gwangju Office of Education: "Chonnam National University and Chosun University Medical Schools Likely Accessible with 272-273 Points"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] The Gwangju College Admission Heads Association and the Admission Analysis Team analyzed the possible application scores for each university based on a raw score of 300 points in Korean, Math, and Science.

Seoul National University is expected to accept applicants with around 272 points for the humanities track and around 263 points for the natural sciences track. The natural sciences data is based on a sample of students who met Seoul National University's exam criteria (combinations of different science subjects I+II, II+II).

Korea University and Yonsei University are expected to accept applicants with around 262 points for the humanities track and around 257 points for the natural sciences track.

The possible application score for Gwangju National University of Education is around 233 points, for Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) around 250 points, and for Korea Energy Engineering University around 250 points.

For Chonnam National University, the humanities track scores are as follows: English Education Department 232 points, Korean Language Education Department 229 points, Department of Public Administration 226 points, Business Administration Department 223 points, with the overall humanities track possible application score around 196 points.

For the natural sciences track: Medical School 273 points, Dentistry 269 points, Pharmacy 266 points, Veterinary Medicine 261 points, Electrical Engineering 246 points, Nursing 219 points. The possible application score for natural sciences departments requiring designated math (Calculus/Geometry) is 200 points, and for those without designated math (Probability and Statistics/Calculus/Geometry all acceptable) around 192 points.

For Chosun University, the humanities track scores are: English Education Department 197 points, Korean Language Education Department 195 points, with the overall humanities track possible application score around 127 points. For the natural sciences track: Medical School 272 points, Dentistry 266 points, Pharmacy 263 points, Nursing 204 points, with the overall natural sciences track possible application score around 129 points.

Note that this analysis and the placement criteria scores are based on the 2022 academic year regular admission guidelines, and the number of available spots may change upon announcement of early admission carryover numbers.

Since these are simple possible application criteria based on raw scores, they should be used only as reference. The scores are based on a 300-point raw score excluding English and Korean History, which are graded on a pass/fail basis, so there may be significant variation depending on English grade scores. When the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) scores are released on December 10, applicants should calculate their converted scores for each university to assess advantages and disadvantages before applying.

The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education will hold a preliminary scoring result analysis briefing for high school seniors’ admission heads at 4 p.m. on the 25th at the Gwangju Student Independence Movement Memorial Hall auditorium, and a final scoring result analysis briefing on December 17.

After the final scoring result analysis briefing, the Office of Education plans to provide video materials of the briefing through its YouTube channel to assist examinees with college applications.

Additionally, from December 20 to 24, a ‘one-on-one face-to-face consultation for regular admissions’ will be conducted by admission counselors from the Gwangju Career and Admission Support Group and the College Admission Heads Association.
