[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Park Ji-won, Director of the National Intelligence Service, apologized on the 23rd regarding the urea solution crisis, stating that although the agency's local intelligence officers reported it, "there was an oversight due to fragmented intelligence."
Park attended the full meeting of the Intelligence Committee that day and made these remarks, according to a briefing by Kim Byung-gi, the Democratic Party's floor leader.
Park said, "The National Intelligence Service perceived it as fragmented intelligence and overlooked its seriousness, which led to a failure to take proactive measures on the urea solution issue."
In response, several intelligence committee members commented, "Since there is no authority to collect intelligence in the new security sector, it does not seem to be an issue warranting an apology."
