[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, recently judged that the need for additional COVID-19 vaccinations is urgent due to the spread of the Delta variant, decreased vaccine effectiveness after the primary vaccination, and breakthrough infections. To increase the rate of additional vaccinations, temporary vaccination centers will be operated in six areas without medical institutions.

According to the county on the 23rd, the areas without medical institutions are Yongsan, Anyang, Jangdong, Jangpyeong, Yuchi, and Busan-myeon. To alleviate difficulties for the elderly aged 60 and over in visiting hospitals and clinics, temporary vaccination centers will be installed at public health centers, and starting from the 26th, sequential vaccination tours will be conducted in the towns and townships.

The administrative welfare centers in the towns and townships will be responsible for transporting the elderly, and the local 119 emergency teams will prepare for emergency situations to ensure safe vaccinations by establishing a cooperative system for rapid response to adverse reactions.

Additional vaccinations are being implemented earlier than before to enhance vaccine effectiveness, as breakthrough infections occur even after the primary vaccination, and infections continue to occur among the elderly and high-risk groups.

The interval for additional COVID-19 vaccinations, which was previously 5 to 6 months after the primary vaccination, has been shortened to 4 to 5 months, and advance reservations began on the 22nd.

The vaccination interval is 4 months for the elderly aged 60 and over and residents and workers in infection-vulnerable facilities, and 5 months for adults in their 50s and priority occupational groups (military personnel, police, firefighters, etc.) before they can receive the vaccination.

By utilizing leftover vaccines from medical institutions, vaccinations can be administered immediately after phone consultation with the medical institution. Additionally, for immunocompromised individuals and Janssen vaccine recipients, additional vaccinations are administered at a 2-month interval from the primary vaccination date.
