Goyang, Siheung, and Guri Cities Excelled in Citizen Administrative Services

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Goyang, Siheung, and Guri cities were selected as the best basic local governments providing the most excellent administrative services in the '2021 City and County Comprehensive Evaluation' conducted by Gyeonggi Province.

Gyeonggi Province will provide each of these cities and counties with 400 million KRW in project funds, distributing a total of 3.4 billion KRW in prize money to outstanding cities and counties.

The province announced on the 23rd that from last month 1st to this month 19th, it divided 31 cities and counties in the province into three groups by population size and conducted evaluations on 98 detailed indicators across six major policy areas: ▲Government where the people are the owners ▲Economy that prospers together ▲Nation responsible for my life ▲Evenly developing regions ▲Peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula ▲Major provincial policies, selecting outstanding cities and counties by group.

In Group 1, which includes the 10 cities and counties with the largest populations, Goyang City scored 100.01 points and was selected as the best local government. Following were Seongnam City (99.38 points) and Hwaseong City (97.94 points), which received excellence awards and will each receive 200 million KRW in support. Yongin City (97.58 points) and Suwon City (96.82 points) also received encouragement awards and 100 million KRW each in project funds.

In Group 2, which includes the 10 cities and counties ranked 11th to 20th by population, Siheung City topped the list with 99.27 points as the best local government. Next were Paju City (98.67 points) and Gimpo City (98.22 points) receiving excellence awards, and Uijeongbu City (98.19 points) and Yangju City (98.06 points) receiving encouragement awards.

In Group 3, which includes the remaining 11 cities and counties with smaller populations, Guri City was selected as the best local government with 97.71 points. Following were Uiwang City (96.80 points) and Yangpyeong County (94.58 points) receiving excellence awards, and Dongducheon City (94.01 points) and Icheon City (93.83 points) receiving encouragement awards.

In addition, regardless of last year's rankings, the province decided to provide a total of 400 million KRW in prize money based on performance improvement to 10 cities and counties including Gwacheon, Anseong, Ansan, and Yeoncheon County, which showed significant score increases this year.

The province evaluated that the administrative level is steadily improving, with the average score of cities and counties rising by 3.39 points compared to last year.

A provincial official stated, "In mid-December, we plan to hold a meeting with evaluation officers from the province and cities and counties to discuss improvements and development directions for the City and County Comprehensive Evaluation," adding, "We will continue to strive to improve administrative services for the residents."
