Principles of Child Growth, Safe and Healthy Environment, Emotional Care, and Efficient Childcare in the ‘S-Dolbom Design Guideline’
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Design Foundation announced on the 23rd that it has developed the 'Seoul Safe Care Childcare Center Customized Environment Design Guideline,' which contains design principles and directions to create a safer childcare environment in daycare centers.
The 'S-Care Design Guideline' includes four main principles to be considered when planning and constructing remodeling or new daycare centers in Seoul: ▲consideration of children's growth ▲creation of a safe and healthy environment ▲providing an emotional atmosphere ▲promoting efficient childcare by teachers. These can be modified or adjusted according to the characteristics and scale of the daycare center.
All entrances are equipped with viewing windows that allow visibility from children's eye level to adults' eye level, and stickers are attached to prevent collision accidents. Lighting fixtures must be covered to prevent bulb-falling accidents. Bathroom floors are constructed with non-slip tiles and designed considering the physical measurements of infants and toddlers and educational purposes such as toilet training.
Additionally, the foundation developed a total of eight individual design items based on the guidelines for installation and use in daycare centers. These items ensure safety from infectious diseases like COVID-19 and stimulate children's creative thinking and independence. Representative items include the 'Kinder Bio Farm,' which allows indoor natural experiences regardless of weather; the 'Entrance Hand Sanitizer Kit,' designed to children's height and shaped like animals to add fun elements; and the animal-shaped 'Emotional Toilet Partition,' which stimulates infants' and toddlers' emotions.
The Seoul Design Foundation applied the developed guidelines and individual design items in cooperation with local districts to four newly established public daycare centers this year. The newly applied daycare centers are Geumcheon-gu Public Doksan Lotte Castle Daycare Center, Mapo-gu Public Haedeul Daycare Center, Mapo-gu Public Sandeul Daycare Center, and Jungnang-gu Geumgang Pentrium Daycare Center. Seoul City explained that the design integration resulted in a high satisfaction score of 92.1 points from parents and childcare teachers, receiving positive responses on-site.
The Seoul Design Foundation also prepared the 'S-Care Design Children Exhibition' at the 3rd floor UDP of DDP Sallimteo, where anyone can experience the daycare center guidelines and design items applied to the target daycare centers. It is open for free from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. CEO Lee Kyung-don said, "'S-Care Childcare Center Design Application Project' is a project to create a safe and comfortable childcare environment where parents can trust and leave their children," adding, "We hope that the application cases at the four locations will become good models."
