[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has cracked down on fishing boat operators and users who engaged in illegal fishing activities, such as fishing within restricted fishing zones like Siwha Lake and failing to keep a passenger list on fishing boats.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that, in response to the peak fishing season, from the 19th of last month to the 11th of this month, it conducted joint inspections with the Coast Guard and city/county authorities targeting illegal fishing activities along the coasts of Hwaseong and Ansan and within the Siwha Lake fishing restricted zones, uncovering a total of 13 violations.
The main violations included ▲ 8 cases of fishing in restricted zones ▲ 1 case of failure to keep a passenger list ▲ 1 case of leisure boat without a license plate ▲ 3 cases of violating fishing restriction standards.
The province plans to impose fines and other penalties on the detected cases in accordance with the 'Fishing Management and Promotion Act' and the 'Water Leisure Safety Act.'
Kim Seong-gon, Director of the Marine Fisheries Division of the province, emphasized, "With the recent surge in the fishing population and increased demand for outdoor activities, preventing safety accidents in advance is crucial," adding, "We will continue to conduct thorough crackdowns and guidance on illegal fishing activities such as violations of fishing restricted zones to establish a healthy fishing culture and protect marine resources."
