Park Suhyun, Cheong Senior Secretary: "Policy Adjustment Toward Downward Stabilization in Real Estate"

CBS Kim Hyun-jung's News Show Interview... "98% of Our Country Does Not Fall Under the Comprehensive Real Estate Tax"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] Park Soo-hyun, the Blue House Chief of Public Communication, stated in an interview with CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' on the 22nd, "We do not presumptively say that the current situation has entered a downward stabilization phase in real estate, but we are adjusting policies and monitoring with the hope that it will move in that direction."

Park explained this in relation to President Moon Jae-in's message on the 21st during the 'Dialogue with the People, Back to Daily Life,' where he emphasized the goal of downward stabilization in real estate.

Park said, "The rate of increase has slowed down, which is the phenomenon we hoped for. In some areas like Sejong City and Daegu, house prices are clearly declining."

Park also conveyed that although a trend of downward stabilization has been observed since September, he is viewing it cautiously. Park said, "We will do our best to maintain a downward stabilization trend until the end of the term, but we cannot definitively say that it is so at present."

Regarding President Moon's expression of regret over real estate issues, Park said, "The President has apologized several times and bowed his head again yesterday."

Park explained, "Since the second week of September, the rate of increase in apartment prices, especially in the metropolitan area, has slowed down, hasn't it? We are closely monitoring whether this is due to government policies or if this is a sustainable phenomenon."

Park also shared his opinion on the comprehensive real estate tax issue. He said, "98% of our country’s population is not subject to the comprehensive real estate tax. They do not receive tax notices," and pointed out, "Portraying that all citizens are hit by a comprehensive real estate tax bomb causes anxiety among the public."

Park urged, "The media should report responsibly to prevent misunderstandings about the comprehensive real estate tax among the public. The Ministry of Economy and Finance is providing detailed explanations today, so I hope people will listen to their voice."

Meanwhile, regarding the overall evaluation of the 'Dialogue with the People, Back to Daily Life,' Park said, "Although the topics were limited, the public asked a wide variety of questions. We expected about 20 questions, but around 30 questions were asked yesterday," and added, "President Moon responded relatively sincerely and honestly, and we hope that many people empathized with his answers."
