LG Electronics Partners with NVIDIA for Cloud Gaming Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Electronics announced on the 21st that it has signed a smart TV content partnership agreement with comprehensive computing company NVIDIA and will start the cloud game streaming platform 'GeForce NOW' service on LG Smart TVs equipped with the webOS operating system.
GeForce NOW is NVIDIA's game streaming platform that allows users to remotely enjoy PC games installed on cloud servers. By simply connecting a compatible controller, users can easily play games that were previously only available on high-performance PCs on their smart TVs. It offers over 1,000 PC games worldwide, including the latest titles such as 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Crysis Remastered Trilogy.'
LG Electronics is the first in the TV industry to provide a dedicated GeForce NOW app and service. Customers using 4K (3840x2160) resolution OLED, QNED, and NanoCell TVs (models equipped with webOS 6.0) released this year in more than 80 countries worldwide can use GeForce NOW. The dedicated GeForce NOW app can be downloaded from the LG Content Store on the TV home screen.
NVIDIA is currently offering a beta service of GeForce NOW on smart TVs and plans to launch the official service soon. Customers can enjoy games on the beta service just as they would on the official service.
Based on webOS's excellent openness and accessibility, LG Electronics is expanding smart TV services and content considering customer preferences. The free broadcasting service LG Channels, which offers over 1,900 channels in 25 countries worldwide, is a representative example. LG is also collaborating with major domestic and international online video service (OTT) providers. Users can enjoy various artworks from around the world through the OLED Gallery application, and through the newly launched LG Fitness service this year, they can receive coaching from fitness experts on their TVs.
Jung Sung-hyun, Head of HE Service Planning and Operation at LG Electronics, said, "We will continue to expand various services and content tailored to customer preferences and deliver a differentiated user experience unique to LG TVs that goes beyond traditional TV viewing."
