Kookmin University (President Lim Hong-jae) Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation is conducting the ‘Graduate Student Thesis-Based Intellectual Property (IP) Creation Support Program Contest’ until the 30th.

Hosted by Kookmin University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and sponsored by BK21 (Phase 4) Project Group, LINC+ Project Group, Graduate School for Green Convergence Technology Talent Development, and ERC Project Group, the ‘2021 Graduate Student Thesis-Based Intellectual Property Creation Support Program Contest’ was established to enhance national competitiveness by converting excellent research achievements of graduate students in the leading fields of the 4th Industrial Revolution into intellectual property rights and technology commercialization.

In particular, this program contest aims to stimulate graduate students’ interest and motivation in intellectual property by utilizing the Korean Intellectual Property Office’s ‘Provisional Specification Submission System’ and ‘Claim Submission Postponement System,’ which allow patent applications to be filed without specifying claims, using free formats such as theses or research notes.

It is also expected to rapidly discover and secure promising technologies in core 4th Industrial Revolution technology fields such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, bio-pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, renewable energy, artificial intelligence (AI), and smart healthcare.

Winners (teams) will be selected through an in-depth evaluation of the technicality, rights, and marketability of their theses, and will receive certificates and prize money under the name of the President of Kookmin University, along with support for domestic and international patent application costs. Selected outstanding technologies will receive follow-up support for patent design and early commercialization through various technology marketing efforts linked to demand-based invention interview support projects and university creative asset commercialization support (BRIDGE+) projects.

Oh Ha-ryeong, Director of Kookmin University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, stated, “Through this contest, we hope to discover differentiated research achievements unique to Kookmin University that encompass not only securing excellent intellectual property rights but also entrepreneurship and startups,” and added, “We will actively support graduate students to step forward as entrepreneurs with innovative technology-based ideas in the future.”
