"Increase in Health Insurance Premium Burden Due to Real Estate Price Surge"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, criticized the average health insurance premium increase of 6,754 won starting this month, asking, "Why should the public, who were quietly living, be hit by a tax bomb and a health insurance premium bomb?" He also promised that if he becomes president, he will prevent the indiscriminate increase of health insurance premium burdens and reform the premium system to focus on income.
On the 19th, Candidate Yoon stated on Facebook, "Another 'surge news' that weakens the people."
He said, "Of course, with the application of the new premium criteria, some regional subscribers will see an increase in their burden, while others will actually benefit. Expanding the property deduction is also a good thing," but pointed out, "Overall, the absolute amount to be paid increases."
He diagnosed the cause, saying, "It is due to the surge in real estate prices," explaining, "As house prices soar, jeonse (long-term deposit lease) prices also rise, and various taxes such as property tax have increased. Consequently, health insurance premiums, which are calculated based on house and jeonse prices, naturally increase."
He also criticized, "In January next year, health insurance premiums for all citizens will be regularly increased by 1.89%," adding, "The unsustainable health populism 'Moon Care' is ultimately increasing the burden on the people."
Candidate Yoon promised to prevent the indiscriminate increase of health insurance premium burdens after his election and pledged to reform the health insurance premium system. This is to resolve the issue of excessive premiums being charged to subscribers without income. He said, "For those who retire or become unemployed and then join regional health insurance, their income disappears but their health insurance premiums skyrocket," and added, "I will definitely correct this flawed premium system."
He repeatedly emphasized, "With various tax bombs and now a health insurance premium bomb, this year must be the last," and said, "Through a change of government, I will firmly break this chain of surges."
