[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, announced that the Three Great Revolutions Red Flag Acquisition Movement will be "carried out as a nationwide, all-people movement," according to a report by the Korean Central News Agency on the 19th.

According to the news agency, in a letter sent to the 5th Three Great Revolutions Vanguard Conference, which opened in Pyongyang on the 18th, General Secretary Kim stated, "The Three Great Revolutions Red Flag Acquisition Movement will not be conducted only at the level of institutions, enterprises, factories, cooperative farms, workplaces, and work teams as it is now, but will be expanded to a broader scope encompassing cities, counties, and combined enterprises (factory complexes)."

He emphasized that cities and counties should become the bases of the Three Great Revolutions, saying, "If over 200 cities and counties nationwide rise up with the spirit of the Three Great Revolutions, they will soon be transformed into wealthy and cultural socialist rural areas equipped with technology and civilization."

General Secretary Kim stressed, "Although the struggle goals set by our Party are vast and difficulties remain piled up, we cannot wait until all conditions are met," adding, "We must advance resolutely and steadfastly along our own development path with our own strength."

The Three Great Revolutions Vanguard Conference has been held four times in the past, and this is the second time since General Secretary Kim took power. This conference appears to be aimed at reviewing the five-year economic development plan presented at the 8th Party Congress in January, encouraging achievements, and strengthening the system on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of General Secretary Kim's leadership.
