Abnormal Symptoms Such as Leg Swelling, Chest Pain, and Joint Pain the Day After Vaccination
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A petition has been posted expressing the desire to reveal the injustice surrounding a husband who died 26 days after receiving his second dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
On the 17th, a petition titled "My husband, who said 'I'll rest for a few days and come back' after receiving the Pfizer vaccine, became a star" was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board.
The petitioner, Ms. A, who introduced herself as a mother of four children living in Daegu, stated, "My husband underwent surgery for stage 2 gallbladder cancer five years ago and had underlying health conditions, so he initially did not want to get vaccinated. However, since his job involves transporting pianos and meeting many people with home visits, he decided to get vaccinated."
According to Ms. A, her husband received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine at a local pediatric clinic on August 14, and since no unusual symptoms appeared, he received the second dose about a month later on September 18.
However, from the day after the second dose, Ms. A's husband showed abnormal symptoms such as leg swelling, chest pain, and joint pain. On October 4, a doctor suggested these symptoms might be side effects of the vaccine. Eventually, after COVID-19 and blood tests, he was admitted to a university hospital on October 7.
Ms. A said, "Except for a bitten tongue, my husband was fine. He had daily X-rays and was only given antibiotics." She added, "(But) he started having pain in his right chest, and pleurisy developed. The hospital said the bacteria responded well to antibiotics, so there was no need to worry, and since he had no fever, the fatigue was expected. However, over time, his speech became so impaired that he could barely pronounce words."
She continued, "From October 13, his strength declined further, and he was in a wheelchair with an oxygen nasal cannula. From the morning of the 14th, his strength was completely gone; he barely moved around in the wheelchair to use the bathroom and could not eat at all, only drinking water." She said, "At 5 p.m. that day, he was moved to the intensive care unit where visits were prohibited. I told him, 'See you in a few days, get good treatment and come back, hang in there,' and he replied, 'I'll rest for a few days and then go.' That was our last farewell."
She added, "Not long after, the attending doctor told me my husband had a cardiac arrest. An hour later, he said my husband's lungs had completely deteriorated and were no longer functioning." She said, "The doctor cried and said he couldn't believe how fast it progressed. They had prepared strong antibiotics and medications but never got to try them. He apologized profusely while explaining. They said acute pneumonia, which had not been present before, and end-stage liver cirrhosis had developed."
She went on, "We received the death certificate at 8 p.m. on October 14. The hospital said it seemed like a vaccine side effect and that they would report it to the public health center, but the health center said that to prove causality, the funeral could not be held for several months." She lamented, "Since we had already completed all funeral procedures, we wanted to conduct an autopsy if we could prove it definitively. The health center said cases progressing this quickly were almost unheard of and that the possibility of proving causality was slim."
Ms. A raised her voice, saying, "If the fact that his lungs completely deteriorated within an hour and could no longer function is not a vaccine side effect, then what is?" She added, "The government said that vaccination benefits outweigh risks for those with underlying conditions and urged vaccination for the sake of others. They said the government would take full responsibility for any adverse reactions or side effects. That is what was broadcast, but when people start dying, they pretend it is due to underlying conditions."
She continued, "Even though the doctor's opinion stated that the possibility of condition worsening due to vaccination should be considered since he was stable without disease progression, the government did not listen to us." She appealed, "I endure day by day looking after my children, but I don't know when I will break down. If he had not been vaccinated, my children and he would still be living well together. Please take responsibility."
