[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Hyundai Doosan Infracore and Hyundai Construction Equipment, subsidiaries of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group's construction machinery division, won the Grand Innovation Award and Innovation Award respectively at the 'Smart Construction Challenge 2021' held on the 17th at KINTEX in Ilsan.
The Smart Construction Challenge is a technology competition hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to discover and support smart construction technologies utilizing advanced technologies based on the 4th industrial revolution and to promote rapid on-site application.
Hyundai Doosan Infracore received the Grand Innovation Award (Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award) in the 'Construction Automation' category for its remote control-based excavation automation technology combined with the integrated smart construction platform Site Cloud. This award marks their second consecutive top position following last year's first place in the 'Earthwork Automation and Advanced Surveying' field. This year, they gained attention by adding excavation automation technology to the integrated smart construction platform that won last year. The method involves 3D surveying using drones, deriving earthwork quantities, and completing on-site construction by combining 5G-based remote control technology with semi-automation technology.
Hyundai Construction Equipment achieved a double crown by winning the Innovation Award in the 'Construction Automation' category with its excavator work automation solution Hi ASSIST and another Innovation Award in the 'Start Safety' category with the smart safety solution Hi DETECT, which automatically stops through sensors.
Earlier, Hyundai Construction Equipment showcased a new product equipped with the 'Hyundai Connect' platform, which enables remote equipment diagnosis and automated machine control, at the 'Korea International Construction Machinery Exhibition' held last week. They also announced plans to release a new 15-ton wheel excavator equipped with self-developed machine guidance and machine control technology early next year and to develop an AI-integrated safety system by 2023.
