[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Im Hye-sook, Minister of Science and ICT, said on the 17th, "I urge the private sector to actively participate and cooperate so that our youth can realize creative ideas and new values through digital capabilities."

Minister Im Hye-sook held the eleventh 'On-site Empathy' event to strengthen field communication at the OpenUP Center (Open Source Software Developer Support Center) in the morning, conducting a policy meeting on nurturing young talent.

The meeting was organized to discuss ways to cultivate young digital talent. Attendees included HR and recruitment managers from large corporations such as Hyundai Motor, Lotte, and SSG.com; digital leading companies like Naver, Kakao, Megazone Cloud, and Bespin Global; venture and startup companies such as Danggeun Market and Wizcore; and recruitment platform companies like Saramin.

Bang Sang-wook, Head of the online recruitment platform 'Saramin,' introduced corporate hiring trends after COVID-19 and the qualities companies seek in young talent.

Oh Ji-yeon, an engineer working at the foreign IT company Dell Technologies, said, "Participating in government-supported projects such as SW-Centered Universities and K-SW Square greatly helped me get a job," adding, "I hope various educational opportunities such as corporate internships and overseas training will be further expanded."

Minister Im Hye-sook stated, "Despite unprecedented crises such as COVID-19, the digital sector has driven innovation and growth across the economy and society, providing youth with pathways for challenge and growth and creating quality jobs," and added, "The Ministry of Science and ICT is reviewing the achievements of talent policies and seeking new directions for nurturing young talent that reflect market demands in line with changes in digital technology and industry."

In June, the Ministry of Science and ICT, in cooperation with related ministries, prepared the 'Public-Private Cooperation-Based SW Talent Nurturing Measures.' By 2025, they plan to nurture a total of 413,000 people, including an additional 89,000 through public-private cooperation. The government is also set to announce a 'Digital Youth Support Policy' soon.
