7-Eleven Launches Premium Handmade Makgeolli ‘Sumi Makgeolli’

7-Eleven Launches Premium Handmade Makgeolli ‘Sumi Makgeolli’ Seven Eleven is launching a premium Makgeolli through a collaboration with actress Kim Sumi, their 'Taste Ambassador.'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Seven Eleven announced on the 17th that it will launch a premium Makgeolli through collaboration with its 'taste ambassador,' actress Kim Sumi.

Sumi Makgeolli is a premium traditional liquor called Samyangju, fermented in three stages for a deep flavor. It uses domestically produced organic non-glutinous rice and glutinous rice, which cost more than twice as much as the rice typically used in regular Makgeolli. The base liquor is made by fermenting a mixture of organic rice and yeast, then additional fermentation is applied, followed by a low-temperature aging period of more than 15 days.

No additives such as aspartame, an artificial sweetener, or preservatives that extend shelf life are used. Instead, the natural sweetness and smoothness derived from high-quality rice itself are emphasized. Compared to regular Makgeolli, the rice content (22%) is about 1.5 times higher, allowing consumers to enjoy a nutty and subtle sweetness.

A Seven Eleven official said, "As more people recently prefer Makgeolli, various transformations of Makgeolli have become noticeable. Sumi Makgeolli is a premium product that breaks the mold of traditional Makgeolli, and we hope customers experience its nutty and subtle sweetness and smooth, rich flavor that come from good ingredients."
