[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] On the 17th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the '2021 Korea Energy Awards' ceremony at the Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas Hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, awarding 108 prizes to individuals and organizations who contributed to improving energy efficiency and developing the renewable energy industry.
The Korea Energy Awards is the largest government award in the energy sector, established in 2018 by integrating the Korea Energy Efficiency Awards and the Korea Renewable Energy Awards.
The Silver Tower Industrial Medal was awarded to Lee Gisu, Vice President of Samsung Electronics. Vice President Lee was recognized for his dedication over more than 30 years in the field of energy efficiency development, including launching energy grade 1 products and developing the highest energy consumption efficiency products domestically and internationally.
The Iron Tower Industrial Medal was awarded to Kang Cheolho, former CEO of Hyundai Energy Solutions, who contributed to the distribution of high-efficiency solar module products and strengthening the high-output competitiveness of domestic modules through bold and proactive research and development (R&D) investments. Lee Junhee, CEO of Woojin Electric, who introduced the amorphous core for the first time in Korea and developed a high-efficiency amorphous distribution transformer, contributing to energy efficiency improvement and enhancing public safety, received the Bronze Tower Industrial Medal.
In addition, the Industrial Medal was awarded to four individuals: Kim Kwangsu, CEO of Korea Miura Industry; Yang Jongdae, CEO of Energezi; Jeong Gyoseok, CEO of Dongho Engineering; and Ahn Jaehwan, CEO of Geumgang Electric Industry.
An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "We will actively promote the expansion of renewable energy and improvement of energy efficiency to achieve carbon neutrality and the national greenhouse gas target (NDC). We plan to faithfully implement efficiency improvement investment activation and digitalization of demand management according to the 6th Basic Plan for Rational Energy Use."
