Yoon Seok-yeol Proposes Joint Election Committee Head to Na Kyung-won... "Time to Join Forces"

[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, is reported to have offered former lawmaker Na Kyung-won the position of co-chairperson of the election campaign committee.

On the 16th, Yonhap News TV reported that Candidate Yoon made this proposal during a meeting with former lawmaker Na at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul.

As he left the party headquarters, Candidate Yoon told reporters, "I had a cup of tea with her because she said she had returned from the U.S. and finished self-quarantine," adding briefly, "Meeting outside was a bit difficult..."

Former lawmaker Na said, "There was a consensus that everyone must unite to build a better Republic of Korea," and added, "Anyone who is a People Power Party member thinking about the future of Korea should come together."

Later, in a phone interview with Yonhap News, she stated regarding her role in the campaign committee, "As a party member, regardless of position, I will play a role for regime change."

Candidate Yoon and former lawmaker Na are senior and junior alumni of Seoul National University Law School and are known to have maintained a friendship since their school days. Accordingly, there had been ongoing speculation about Na joining the campaign even before Yoon was selected as the final candidate in the primary.

Earlier, Representative Joo Ho-young, who joined Yoon’s preliminary campaign and took on the role of co-chairperson, appeared on CBS Radio's 'Hanpanseung' on the 29th of last month and said, "There is a possibility of (Na’s joining). Of course, there are requests for help. But the lawmakers are all evaluating the candidates."

Meanwhile, on the same day, Candidate Yoon had breakfast with former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong, and at lunch, he met with nine lawmakers including Lee Chae-ik (three-term), Park Sung-joong, Lee Man-hee (two-term), Kim Mi-ae, Kim Seon-kyo, Park Sung-min, Ahn Byung-gil, Choi Chun-sik, and Hwang Bo-seung-hee (first-term), showing efforts to expand meetings with parliamentary figures.
