Dog's Nose as a 'Health Record'... Pet 'Biometric Identification' Safe Adoption and Care Service Launched

UNIST Startup Pairico and LG Uplus Launch Safe Pet Adoption Campaign

Providing Smart Solution to Verify Vaccination and Health Status Using Biometric Identification

Dog's Nose as a 'Health Record'... Pet 'Biometric Identification' Safe Adoption and Care Service Launched

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The era when the wrinkles on a dog's nose serve as a health record for humans is approaching faster than expected.

A technology that allows vaccination and medical examination records to be checked simply by recognizing the 'nose print' wrinkles on a pet's nose with a smartphone has become a reality. This has made the process of welcoming a new pet dog family easier and more convenient.

UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology) startup company Pairico and LG Uplus have joined hands to innovate the pet adoption and sales market.

The two companies signed an agreement to actively promote the 'Pet Safe Adoption Campaign,' which uses biometric solutions to verify the health status of pets.

Pairico is a pet tech startup that has developed technology to authenticate the identity of individual pets using their biometric information.

The recently launched application by this company, 'PeterPet Health,' is a solution that certifies whether a pet being adopted or sold has received vaccinations and veterinary health checkups.

By inputting the pet's biometric information, users can access the medical examination certificates.

Kim Tae-heon, CEO of Pairico, explained, "This campaign is aimed at improving the environment where guardians cannot properly verify health information from animal sellers when adopting or purchasing pets," adding, "Pairico's solution reassures guardians welcoming pets as new family members."

The enforcement regulations of the Animal Protection Act, revised in August 2020, require all animal sellers to ensure accuracy.

When selling an animal, sellers must provide the guardian with basic information about the animal, veterinary treatment records such as vaccinations, the health status at the time of sale, and documents proving these details.

However, according to this year's special inspection by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on 114 pet sellers, management was difficult as individual management cards were inadequately prepared and stored, and a total of 37 violations were detected.

Pairico and LG Uplus are launching a joint campaign to improve this situation. Guardians intending to adopt or purchase pets can visit animal sellers that have adopted Pairico's safe adoption solution to check the information of the pet they plan to welcome as family.

Guardians can take a photo of the pet's nose with a smartphone to verify vaccination records, health checkup history, and medical examination certificates stamped with the veterinarian's signature.

At this time, if the guardian subscribes to LG Uplus Pet Care service on-site, they receive a safe adoption package as a bonus, including pet food, dishes, and cushions.

LG Uplus Pet Care service is a total care solution designed to safely and securely care for pets' health and safety 24 hours a day.

It provides two dedicated devices: a home CCTV that allows 24-hour communication and a remote feeder that can feed pets even when the owner is away from home.

Additionally, it offers annual coverage limits for hospitalization and surgery costs due to pet illness or injury, along with benefits such as coupons usable at pet-exclusive shopping malls.

CEO Kim Tae-heon said, "The Pet Safe Adoption Campaign will enable the management of pet histories that have not been managed at all until now and is expected to reduce illegal self-vaccinations."

He added, "Although there is currently some reluctance toward such advanced systems, we aim to bring a fresh breeze to the adoption and sales market and the era of pet registration."

The collaboration between Pairico and LG Uplus is a result of the partnership formed last August between UNIST and LG Uplus to discover smart healthcare solutions.

The two companies, which were pursuing new businesses in the pet healthcare field, have created synergy.

CEO Kim said, "I am proud to have created a practical business case through university and corporate cooperation," and added, "I hope this will be an opportunity to solve safe adoption and safe care for pet guardians at once."
