Crime Committed During Probation Period
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Yeeun] A man in his 50s who brutally murdered his wife after drinking just over a month after registering their marriage was sentenced to a heavy prison term.
According to the legal community on the 15th, Mr. A (57) drank alcohol for about an hour starting around 10:38 PM on June 4 at his home located in Daejeon, and for unknown reasons, violently beat his wife. He then stabbed her face, hands, and thighs with a weapon.
The wife was taken to the hospital but died two days later.
It was investigated that Mr. A and the victim had registered their marriage and lived together since the end of April.
Mr. A claimed to the investigators, "I do not remember stabbing my wife with a knife because I was drunk, and when I came back from the bathroom, I found the blanket soaked with blood and called 119." At that time, Mr. A was reportedly serving a suspended prison sentence for obstructing official duties committed while intoxicated in the past.
The victim’s children are known to be suffering from psychological distress such as depression and anxiety.
The Criminal Division 11 of the Daejeon District Court (Chief Judge Park Heonhaeng) recently sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted on charges of murder, to 18 years in prison.
The court stated the sentencing reasons, "Although the method of the crime was brutal, the defendant consistently denied the crime by saying he does not remember stabbing with a knife during the investigation, but considering that the defendant admitted the crime was committed by himself and is reflecting on his wrongdoing."
