[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Kakao announced on the 15th that it has achieved results in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) rating evaluations conducted by external organizations such as the Dow Jones Index.
Kakao was newly included in the '2021 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI)' for the 'DJSI World Index,' 'DJSI Asia Pacific Index,' and 'DJSI Korea Index.' This is the first time Kakao has been included in the DJSI indices.
The DJSI is an index that comprehensively considers not only a company's economic performance but also its ESG performance. It is used to compare the level of corporate sustainability management and as a standard for responsible investment.
Kakao was the only domestic company newly included in all three indices within the 'Interactive Media, Services & Home Entertainment' industry group, which includes major online service companies.
In January this year, Kakao established an ESG Committee under its board of directors. In May, it published the ESG report "2020 Kakao's Promise and Responsibility," which contains goals and achievements related to environmental, social, and governance aspects.
A Kakao representative said, "Since this year, Kakao has focused on strengthening ESG management and has made various efforts. We will continue to carry out ESG activities for coexistence and innovation."
