[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A dispute continues between the Democratic Party's election committee and Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, over the issue of family verification of presidential candidates from both parties.
On the 13th, Park Chandae, chief spokesperson of the Democratic Party's election committee, said at a National Assembly briefing, "Apologize for your disgraceful remarks."
Earlier, when the Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung's side attacked People Power Party candidate Yoon Seok-youl as the "head of headquarters (himself, wife, and mother-in-law) candidate," Lee Jun-seok retaliated by saying, "I will confidently target Lee's family from now on."
On this day, Chief Spokesperson Park pointed out, "It seems they suddenly got scared when the Democratic Party announced plans to investigate suspicions surrounding candidate Yoon's family."
He continued, "It's absurd to say that there are some suspicions about candidate Lee's family that need to be targeted. They colluded with fraudulent thugs to wave fake stacks of money photos and raised baseless suspicions; are they now trying to create unfounded rumors again?"
He added, "If there are any matters to verify regarding candidate Lee, I hope they raise them anytime. The Democratic Party will respond confidently to legitimate verification requests. However, I hope they refrain from low-level remarks like threatening to raise forced suspicions if their own candidate's suspicions are investigated."
Furthermore, Chief Spokesperson Park said, "The People Power Party should first faithfully cooperate with the verification of candidate Yoon's family, who are called a family fraud group as the candidate himself, his spouse, and mother-in-law are all under investigation for various charges," and "I urge the People Power Party not to further degrade the dignity of the Republic of Korea's presidential election."

Upon hearing this, Leader Lee launched a counterattack. On the same day, he immediately dismissed the remarks on his Facebook, saying, "Disgrace is cursing within the family."
Leader Lee pointed out, "I warned the Democratic Party, which uses attacking our candidate's family as a strategy, that 'if they cross the line, I will respond twice as hard,' and yet they talk about disgrace."
He added, "It is puzzling that Lee Jae-myung's side talks about disgrace that won't even recover their losses."
